New LOW Price! $49,500 USD

After much discussion, my husband and I have decided NOT to fix the house up to turn it into a rental.

Since we aren't doing that, we are lowering the price by the money we think we would have needed to fix it up to be rentable. The price was $70,000 USD. We're lowering it to $49,500 USD.

This low price now makes up for the fact that it is across from the CFE Power Plant, and turns this large piece of property with a colonial home on it into a VERY GOOD DEAL! Someone is going to be able to turn this into a lovely home with a pool and yard for less than $100K now that the price has been lowered.

For those of you who might be worried about being close to EMT (electro magnetic transmissions), we invite you to read this:

The house is listed with some real estate agents, or you can contact us directly at 999-176-2176 in Mexico or 213-634-1492 in the USA.

Fall 2008 Update

It seems one of the recent storms took down the ciruela tree. This tree stood in the middle of the yard, in the back, and gave us the most delicious plums. Now, sadly, it is being cut into logs as I type and there will be a stump to sit on.

Perhaps it will grow back... we'll see!

Just an Update

The house is still for sale, and I thought I'd write down some of the minor improvements that have been made.

There was a leak in the roof of the second downstairs room. So I put Manuel on the job, and he rerouted the drainage of the roof and impermeabilizante-d the roof... covered it with waterproofing. So now, even in the very intense rainstorms we have had lately, no leaks!!

We also built a small wading/sitting/cooling off plunge pool in the back. It's snuggled against the lovely stone wall (which I appreciate more and more....what a beautiful wall it is!). There are ferns growing from the wall near the pool now, and Arvi, my friend and assistant, is planting the garden and with all these rains, it's really coming to life!

I am growing fonder and fonder of the house, but have to sell it eventually. I think it will be a lovely home for someone someday...it's cute the way it is, and has incredible potential if it can be renovated.

Also, the neighborhood is getting better and better. I noticed that the big house two doors down had some renovation starting the other day (and I know for a fact that the doctor who bought the house plans to start renovating in serious this winter). And Galeria Merida just opened their doors just one block from Mejorada Park, the park nearest to this house. The ESAY art school, which is also just a few blocks away, is going strong. And the Museo del Arte Popular de Yucatan also just opened (it faces Mejorada Park). It's a great neighborhood that is just getting better, and this house happens to be on one of the streets where there is always parking!

New Photos

The garden has been cleaned up considerably and we've built a plunge pool in the back. Not sure what a plunge pool is? Well, it's just a pool to sit in and cool off, not to swim in. It's nestled up against the stone walls and has a nice wide bench. Dogs love it too!

Patio outside with well

Spacious patio outdoors with an old well that can be easily turned into a beautiful fountain.

Tile Floors

These are the tile patterns of the floors in the first two rooms.

Stairs

Stairs from the kitchen up to the second story bedroom.

Upstairs bathroom

Spacious, for an original Merida colonial home. Nice big window that looks out to the trees.

Upstairs bedroom

The upstairs bedroom was added on later in the house's history. It has built-in wooden closets that are in good condition, and it opens onto the patio. All the floors are the same dark red mosaicos.

View from Upstairs

This is the beautiful view from the upstairs balcony of the house, looking into the center of the block. Who would know you are only five blocks from the zocalo, four blocks from the mercado, three blocks from the Railroad Station and two blocks from Mejorada?

Its very quiet in the house, even when there is traffic on the street.

Gates

These are the iron gates between the breakfast room and the patio. You can also see the original protectores (iron grills) that are on the windows. You can see beyond through the dining room and front living room to the front door of the house.

Breakfast room

Not sure what to call this room. It is just off the kitchen and open to the patio in back. It has a built in cabinet with a mirrored back that is under a hood of some kind. We have not been able to figure out what the purpose of this is....

Here you can easily see the color of the dark red floor tiles that are in the back four rooms of the house.

Kitchen

This is the kitchen. On your right is a built-in cabinet, all original and in good condition. The kitchen also has a window out to the patio, and another door to a breakfast area that goes out to the patio. Beyond the kitchen is the downstairs bathroom.
